The State Board of Elections encourages all filers to electronically file reports.
Which Reports are Available Online? Candidates Online reports are available for all candidates for the Virginia General Assembly and for statewide office, starting with the elections held in November 2001. Candidates whose reports are e-filed will be available online within 24 hours after each reporting deadline. Candidates whose reports are filed on paper are available online within 72 hours of each reporting deadline.
Local Candidates
Online reports are available for local candidates who opt to electronically file. Paper reports are filed with the local voter registration office.
PAC, Party, Referendum, and Inaugural Committees Online reports are available only for those political committees that e-file with the State Board of Elections. Starting in July 2004, all political committees that raise or spend more than $10,000 a year are required to e-file. The reports for all other committees are available for public inspection during normal business hours at the State Board of Elections, located at 200 North 9th Street, Suite 101, Richmond, VA 23219-3497. Costs for copies are 25 cents per page.
Out-of-State Committees
Beginning in 2006, out-of-state committees that contribute $10,000 or more to candidates or political committees registered in Virginia are required to report a list of their contributors who have given $2,500 or more during the calendar year. They are also required to report the contributions given to candidates and political committees registered in Virginia. All of these reports are available on-line.
Archived reports are available for public inspection at the Library of Virginia.
