Campaign Finance VA Filing Help Desk Disclaimer

The purpose of the help desk is to assist committees with questions related to the use of the VA Filing software and uploading the report created using VA Filing.

Support hours for the Campaign Finance Help Desk are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, (EST).

Receiving technical assistance does not guarantee timely filing or that the recipient of assistance will be given an extension of the filing deadline.

To better serve you when you call, we ask that you:

                                                         ·            Have your Committee ID and Committee Name available;

                                                         ·            Be at the computer, with the VA Filing software open (if possible);

                                                         ·            Be specific: Try to be as precise as possible in describing your problem. It is quite difficult to diagnose and troubleshoot a problem over the phone without complete information. If you get an error message on your screen, write it down before calling;

                                                         ·            Communicate your experience: If you are a new user, inform the support personnel. Feel free to ask questions or have the support person slow down, explain, or repeat if needed.

Help Desk Limitations

The majority of inquiries can be resolved quickly and efficiently. However, there are some situations that the Help Desk will not be able to help you with:

                                                         ·            Hardware conflicts or configurations;

                                                         ·            Insufficient administrative rights on the user’s end;

                                                         ·            Corrupt or missing database;

                                                         ·            Corrupt text files.

It is imperative that the State Board of Elections maintain the integrity of the Campaign Finance data and reports that are uploaded by committees. Therefore, we will no longer be able to rebuild VA Filing databases, manually correct report text files or upload reports.

While staff members of the State Board of Elections can provide information regarding the requirements under Virginia law for filing a document in this office, we are prohibited from providing legal advice to the public.
